Not Bad

Review Date: July 18, 2010
Reviewer: Jason J. Torres, El Monte, CA
In Fear you go through level after level killing the same enemies and trying to figure out what happened in all the madness. You chase the same guy through the level. I would avoid this one and if this type of game is up your alley save up a few more bucks and buy FEAR 2 or FEAR 3. I haven't played them yet but I'm just assuming you could only go up from here.

High Points:
Slow Motion - Like in Max Pain you can slow down town for a bit
Weapons - Good Variety of Weapons

Low Points:
Repetitive - A small variety of enemies. Most of the time your fighting the same enemies the whole game
Difficulty Level - Tried playing in Extraem mode..was too difficult.
Hard to Get Achievements - Most achievements are for online play but nobody really plays this game online anymore
Not Scary - For a Game Called FEAR there wasn't much to be scared of. Once in a while you hear a noise or something
Better than the reviews I read.

Reviewer: Joshua,
Great Seller, game arrived in perfect condition.

I actually played FEAR 2 first and enjoyed that game very much so I was itching to get the first one to see how it all started. I read many reviews which talked about the PS3 version of this game having poor graphics compared to the PC and X-box 360. I haven't seen it on either but considering this game was top of the line when it came out in 2005 I thought the graphics were pretty good even by current standards. I also heard the levels were monotonous in style and hard to navigate. I disagree on both counts. I didn't have trouble getting through the levels and as for monotonous design; you spend most of your time in a giant corporate building. If you've ever been in a hospital you know this is how buildings tend to end up being on a large scale. That being said there was plenty of variety in the scenery. Definitely worth the buy if you plan on playing through the series especially considering FEAR 3 comes out this October.
Scary? Not so much.

After reading previous reviews of this game, I was prepared to be terrified. Maybe the mistake I made was playing "Condemned: Criminal Origins" before picking this one up--that one had me breaking out in goosebumps the entire time I played. So far, I've found "F.E.A.R." to be a somewhat suspenseful, incredibly repetitive shooter. Sure, it's fun to hide out and strategize about how you're going to take on seven heavily-armed enemies who are stationed in various areas around a room. (The first few times.) But this grows old fast.

As for the "F.E.A.R." factor in this game--eh. Just eh. It's a tad creepy, wandering through the rat-infested hallways of a waste treatment plant. It is a bit spooky when you see someone walk by who suddenly ceases to be there. But all in all, there are way too many guns and explosions for this to be the sort of tense, psychological thriller of a game I expected it to be.

overall, pretty good

Pretty decent game. People are still playing it online.
It's a little hard to explain this properly but ... while the graphics are a little crude by 360 standards, they are still quite good. The art design and lighting are so effective that the slightly lower resolution graphics work well.
The frame rate stutters occasionally, but it doesn't affect the game play. You'll see the frame rate slow down but it doesn't make you miss a shot.
Achievement-wise, you'll have to play through at least 4 times as some of the achievements are mutually exclusive.
Excellent game..Does have some problems

This was the 2nd game that I finished on my PS3--the first being Half Life 2 on the Orange Box. This is a great game for FPS fans and delivers plenty of scares and jumps. Like Half Life 2, you have to deal with a flashlight that only lasts about 20 seconds or so. Although this is gimicky, it adds an intensity to the game as you don't want to use the flashlight unless you absolutely have to as you don't want to find yourself getting attacked in the dark. They took this part out of F.E.A.R. 2 which I was grateful for at first and then kind of missed as a lot of the suspense gets taken out once the flashlight works all the time. Admittedly, the graphics of this game cannot be compared to the sequel. Not even in the same category but perfectly adequate when combined with great shooting mechanics. There are a variety of cool high tech guns(that nail gun is still one of my favorite guns all time and that sniping laser gun--WOW!!) Also the slow-mo function never gets old. Blasting through 5 guys in 6 seconds and watching them slowly fall to the ground as their limbs fly off just never gets old. The only real negative is the loading times and the fact you are fighting the same enemies through the entire game. If you die, you literally wait close to 30 to 40 seconds to respawn. YOu get to hate the waits so much that you will change the difficulty down to easy just so you don't get killed!! (BTW, every game should let you change the difficulty on the fly) Overall, for what this game is selling for right now, I can still recommend it highly. Also pick up the sequel as it fixes nearly every problem with this game and has a larger variety of enemies. Plus you get to drive Mech!! Nuff said.

Product Description

Get ready to take on the full strength of the Helghast war machine from a dramatic first-person perspective with Killzone 2 for PS3. From Guerilla Games, this much anticipated follow-up to Killzone for PS2 and Killzone: Liberation for PSP drops you right into the boots of battle hardened special forces soldier Sev. Set two years after the aborted Helghast assault on Vekta, the action opens with your ISA Legion squad deployed behind enemy lines on the Helghan's unforgiving home turf.

Motion blurs and studio-grade special effects bring battle to life. View larger.

First-person viewpoints and 7.1 surround sound keep you immersed. View larger.

Realistic lighting and detailed environments add a cinematic quality. View larger.

Smooth animation and improved AI give the Helghans a terrifying, realistic presence. View larger.
Combat Lifelike AI and Inhospitable Terrain
Despite the smooth character animations and swift-thinking AI behind each individual Helghan, their planet itself may be the most deceptive opponent that you face. Unlike other game environments that serve as nothing more than a visual backdrop, the devastating Helghan climate takes a notable toll. And, worst of all, the Helghans know exactly how to use the planet against you.

The in-your-face perspective comes to life as you take aim with exotic new weapons and mainstays from the previous games, including the M82-G assault rifle. And you can now drive an array of rugged, sometimes strange, vehicles that expand the gruesome possibilities of war.

Guerilla Technology in a Terrifying, Realistic World
Guerrilla's unique visuals and deferred rendering technology ensure that even the ugliest situations on Helghan are beautifully lit. Ambient occlusion and accurate shadow casting from a variety of light sources combine with gritty textures, detailed environments, and studio-grade special effects to help complete the realistic, Hollywood experience of this first-person shooter.

Real-time cutscenes, full-screen anti-aliasing, motion blurs, and internal lens reflections all bring you into the fold and work to maximize the hardware capabilities of the PS3. And the audio experience is no less impressive. 7.1 surround sound capability lend a truly dynamic sound element to your experience, while audio occlusion with wave tracing means that you can hear the difference between indoor and outdoor firefights.

Chaotic Multiplayer Drama Online
While single-player mode lets you take on the unique challenges of 11 fully developed levels, online play lets you engage with up to 32 players at a time, bringing the gritty, realistic chaos of war to a whole new level.

Other multi-player friendly enhancements in Killzone 2 include in-game clan management, a match wagering system, and the ability to integrate new information and track friends and enemies with the community at Killzone.com.
